I wonder if there’s even any spot on Legend that no inhabited island passes through during its orbit. I’m not sure how you’d even flatten out the planet.
Lagend is a water planet with a very tiny rocky core (it should have one if it wants to be a “correct” exoplanet, but I don’t know if the author thought about this) surrounded by a huge water bubble. All “islands” on the surface are actually huge living organisms, similar to our corals. They slowly drift around the planet, driven by currents in the water and in the air.
All that stuff like rock and other surface features have slowly accumulated on the outside of these drifting islands.
At least that’s how I remember the descriptions from 70 Seas.
