Even today, cigarettes (per single cigarette) are more like lighting some change on fire (which is kind of hard to do) unless you factor in things like future medical bills and stuff like that (which you absolutely should) or live in a country with terribly unstable currency. Not saying you should smoke (please don’t!).
Of course those things _are_ a terrible investment unless you’re in prison (and even then if you actually do want to burn them) or plan on going to prison for smuggling.

Hee, hee, exactly why my dad refused to smoke, “Why light a dollar bill on fire!?!” (Tools are the more sound investment!) =^^=
