  7. I was going to say … the cotton gin is technically a peaceful invention. Doesn’t directly hurt anything.
    HOWEVER, before WWII, there were really only three kinds of fabric: Cotton, Wool, and Silk. Nobody wears wool in humid climates, and silk has always been expensive. Before the cotton gin, the margins on cotton were so low that people were trying to get out of the business. When the cotton gin was produced, it allowed landowners to put more of their fields into growing it, and more labor. A higher demand for really cheap labor incentivized the slavery trade, especially in places where cotton could be grown.
    All of those other inventions are even more directly related to warfare.
