They’re looking the other way because, on the previous page, Zander warned them there was one more pirate to watch out for, and since Zander is the buttmonkey (or buttdonkey?) of the story, they’ve completely ignored him and his warning.
Finally Zander’s found a fighting style that works for him. He just needs to train with a quadruped teacher.
Y’know what they should do? Write ‘Toby Town’ in reverse on the shoes – that way it will be left in hoof prints on the ground the right way around.
